Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year!
It has been a productive and exciting summer as the district administration has worked collaboratively to ensure we provide an outstanding learning environment for all students in Little Egg Harbor Township. We are especially pleased to welcome Ms. Chrissy Cummings as the new principal at George J Mitchell Elementary School and Ms. Kelly Shine, who will serve as GJM’s elementary supervisor. The 2023-2024 school year promises to be a very exciting time for everyone in our school district!
As partners in educating your children, the Little Egg Harbor School District will focus on two goals that support our district’s strategic plan in the area of student achievement. To address the district’s goal to increase proficiency and achievement in student performance in English Language Arts and Mathematics, as measured by district approved assessments, a new mathematics curriculum will be implemented at all grade levels. Ready Math helps teachers create a rich classroom environment in which students at all levels become active, real-world problem solvers. Through teacher-led instruction, students develop mathematical reasoning, engage in conversation, and build strong mathematical habits. The online component, i-Ready, provides students of all ages with differentiated instruction and supports them on their individual paths to success.
Similarly, grades 3-6 will have access to BEABLE, a cross-curricular leveled reading program providing supplemental readings in multiple subject areas. By further promoting reading fluency and foundational math skills, we are taking a major step in our goal to increase student achievement in both English language arts and mathematics.
Additionally, the district’s goal to build an inclusive school environment that ensures equity for all students and an educational program that reflects the diverse experiences and backgrounds of all members of the school community has prompted us to carefully examine our compliance with NJ Dept. of Education guidance on instructional time, class size, and the ability to provide the least restrictive environment for our special needs students. It is our intent to make a more concerted effort to improve communication between the school, our families, and various stakeholders in the community. We will do our very best to keep everyone informed through district broadcasts, email, social media platforms and our district website. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.
As we prepare to begin a new school year, we are filled with renewed optimism and excitement for what our students can and will achieve. It is our hope that you share in our optimism and excitement. We look forward to welcoming you back to school on September 7th!
