English Language Arts Curriculum
Fundations® (Grades K-3)
Fundations® utilizes a structured literacy approach grounded in the science of reading to make learning to read fun while laying the groundwork for lifelong literacy. The program’s research-based approach and extensive materials allow K–3 teachers to confidently present a carefully structured reading, spelling, and handwriting curriculum using engaging, multisensory techniques. Fundations is aligned with the science of reading and guides teachers to provide effective instructional practices.
Wonders (Grades K-5)
Wonders is the district’s English Language Arts program in Grades K-5 that is designed to meet the rigor of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards. Wonders is an evidence-based program grounded in the Science of Reading. It empowers students to take an active role in learning and exploration. Our students will enjoy unparalleled opportunities to express and assess themselves through reading, writing, and speaking. Students will learn to read accurately and fluently to support their reading comprehension. Students will encounter the right content at the right moment in their learning journey to promote strong educational outcomes for all.
Schoolwide (Grade 6)
Balanced literacy incorporates all reading approaches, realizing students need to use multiple strategies to become proficient readers. Balanced literacy combines phonemic awareness, phonics, word study, vocabulary, and reading comprehension strategies. It provides and cultivates the skills of reading, writing, thinking, speaking and listening for all students.
A balanced literacy Program includes:

- Guided Reading
- Independent Reading
