LEHSD Title III - English as a Second Language (ESL)

Title III is a federal program under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). More information can be found here. The purpose of Title III is:

  • to help ensure that multilingual learners attain English proficiency and develop high levels of academic achievement in English

  • to assist all multilingual learners in meeting the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS)

  • to assist teachers and other staff in implementing effective language instruction designed to support multilingual learners

  • to assist teachers and other school staff in enhancing their capacity to provide effective instructional programs that prepare multilingual learners for English instructional settings

  • to promote parental, family, and community participation in language instruction educational programs for the parents, families, and communities of multilingual learners.
